Miami hospital aims for greater patient engagement | EHR Watch

With the words “patient engagement” figuring prominently in the recent Meaningful Use Stage 2 proposed regulations, we’re likely to hear more about that goal from vendors in the months ahead.

For example, PatientPoint™, a provider of care coordination and patient care management solutions, recently announced that it has been selected by Miami Children's Hospital to provide consulting services and to implement its patented HealthSync Care Coordination Platform.

And as if on cue, Ed Martinez, CIO of Miami Children’s, noted that “HealthSync offers best-in-class patient tracking, patient care coordination and a complete set of mobile applications for patient engagement. We believe it will provide a highly effective, end to end, enterprise-level solution for care coordination and patient engagement during pre-care, point of care and post care."

Echoing Martinez’s comments, Raj Toleti, PatientPoint’s CEO, observed that “When we first met with the leadership at Miami Children's Hospital and heard their vision of coordinated, patient-centred care, we felt that there were many synergies between our organizations and a great opportunity to partner and bring to market a patient engagement platform second to none.”

According to the company, PatientPoint will deploy the HealthSync Care Coordination Platform to the Miami Children's physician network across multiple care settings. Data will be aggregated from Electronic Health Record registries, Pharmacy Benefits Managers, and patient self-reported information to identify and resolve clinical care gaps. Various patient engagement technologies, including wellness digital gaming and mobile and online applications will be leveraged for pre-and post-care reminders and to ensure medication and treatment adherence. In addition, tablet based check-in and check-out solutions will be used to simplify administrative processes, address medication and clinical gaps in care, and facilitate clinical surveys and screenings like ADHD.

Miami Children's Hospital is South Florida's only licensed speciality hospital exclusively for children, with more than 650 attending physicians and over 130 paediatric sub-specialists.
