Miami hospital aims for greater patient engagement | EHR Watch

Posted on Mon, Apr 23, 2012 - 02:18 pm

With the words “patient engagement” figuring prominently in the recent Meaningful Use Stage 2 proposed regulations, we’re likely to hear more about that goal from vendors in the months ahead.

For example, PatientPoint™, a provider of care coordination and patient care management solutions, recently announced that it has been selected by Miami Children's Hospital to provide consulting services and to implement its patented HealthSync Care Coordination Platform.

And as if on cue, Ed Martinez, CIO of Miami Children’s, noted that “HealthSync offers best-in-class patient tracking, patient care coordination and a complete set of mobile applications for patient engagement. We believe it will provide a highly effective, end to end, enterprise-level solution for care coordination and patient engagement during pre-care, point of care and post care."

Vendor pushes EHR boundaries | EHR Watch

by JEFF ROWE, EDITOR

We ended last week by pointing to a Texas-based doctor/blogger who basically thinks EHRs have boxed themselves in technologically.

But while he makes a compelling argument, and there are obviously disadvantages to current EHR technology, all hope may not be lost. For example, it seems PracticeFusion is going to be spending the next year trying to push the EHR boundaries in several different directions.

This article notes that “On Sunday night the company will launch a physician review portal built on feedback in surveys from the patients of doctors using Practice Fusion’s Web-based electronic medical records system. Then later this week the company will release ChartShare, which will allow doctors in and out of PracticeFusion’s network to chat with one another similar to using Facebook chat . . .”
